An American Family History

Mary Magdalene Kessler Myers was born on January 31, 1786 in North Codorus Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Henry Kessler and Barbara Kenoyer.

She married George Myers on October 8, 1804 in Greenbrier County, Virginia. George was born about February 15, 1777 in Maryland. His parents were Lewis and Mary Myers.

David Myers (1834).

They moved to Ohio before the 1820 census. They were early pioneers there. The 1820 census showed George Miars in Green Township, Clark County, Ohio.

The family was still in German Township in 1850. The household consisted of George age 73 and a farmer, Mary M. was 64, and Benjamin age 20. The next household was John Myers and his family. John was age 37 and born in Ohio.

George died on July 18, 1853 and Mary died on February 22, 1867 in Clark County, Ohio and is buried in Myers Cemetery (also known as the Old German Baptist Cemetery) in German Township, Clark County, Ohio.

Clark County, Ohio was formed March 1, 1817, from Champaign, Madison and Greene Counties. The first settlement was in 1796. The inhabitants of German Township were German Lutherans who came from Virginia.

County's Oldest Woman died Wednesday, age 99

Mrs. Susannah Myers Huffman, aged 99, who for several years has been accorded the honor of being the oldest living woman in Wells County and the only living mother of a Civil War veteran in the county, passed away at one o'clock this afternoon, at the home of one of her daughters, Mrs. John Minnich, one and one-half miles southwest of Mt. Zion, where she has been making her home for some time.

The aged woman had been confined to her bed only about two weeks, and her demise is attributed to complications due to her advanced years. On August 6th of this year she celebrated her 99th birthday anniversary, at the Minnich home where there was a gathering of the children and grandchildren. On that occasion there was taken a five-generation group picture including Mrs. Susannah Huffman, her daughter, Mrs. John Minnich, the latter's son, John Minnich, Jr., his daughter, Mrs. Edna Jamaison, and Mrs. Jamaison's little son, Keith Jamaison.

Susannah Myers, as Mrs. Huffman was known before her marriage, was a native of Ohio, but early in her life moved to Salamonie township, Huntington County, where she and her husband, Jacob Huffman, deceased, spent most of their years of happy married life. Her husband preceded her in death, having passed away about 55 years ago. After his death she continued to live on her farm in Huntington county, just across the line a short distance from Wells County, until her advanced years caused her to accept the urgent requests of her children to spend her declining years in their homes, and for about twenty years she and lived most of the time with her children residing in the vicinity of Mt. Zion.

Surviving her are seven children, and many grandchildren, who regarded her ever with deepest reverance[sic], and will cherish her memory as long as they live. The surviving children are Rev. Lewis Huffman, a Dunkard minister, residing near Mt. Zion; Ex-Sheriff George W. Huffman, of Mt. Zion; Elijah and Jacob Huffman, near Warren; Mrs. John Minnich, of Mt. Zion; Mrs. Robert Campbell, of Liberty Center; and Mrs. Sylvester Gephart, of near Warren.

Mrs. Huffman was a devout christian and was a member of the Sugar Grove Dunkard church, near Mt. Zion.

Funeral Friday forenoon at 10:30 o'clock at the Sugar Grove church.

M. E. Click was born in Clark County, Ohio, March 19, 1834, and is a son of Jacob and Catherine (Myers) Click. Mr. Click is of German descent, and a native of Rockingham County, Va. Their family consisted of nine sons, all living. The mother died in December, 1852, and Mr. Click afterward married Susanna Ream, who became the mother of five children, three boys and two girls, of whom the sons only survive, making a total of twelve living sons of Jacob Click.
